Two foundations: global scale and operational integration
Manufacturing finance on Oracle Fusion ERP rests on two principles. Global scalability means multi-entity, multi-GAAP and multi-currency support, with centralised ledgers and secondary ledgers for local statutory compliance across sites. Operational integration means data flows from shop-floor execution into the financial subledgers, with real-time cost capture and variance analysis.
Enterprise structure
- Legal entities – the corporate structure for tax and statutory reporting across jurisdictions.
- Primary ledgers – a shared chart of accounts, calendar and currency to standardise reporting.
- Cost organizations – inventory organizations grouped into cost books for consistent material and labour costing.
Chart of accounts
| Segment | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Company | The legal entity, used as the balancing segment |
| Cost centre | Spend by manufacturing department, plant floor or logistics hub |
| Natural account | GAAP/IFRS classification for consolidated reporting |
| Product / line | Profitability by product family or SKU group |
| Future | Reserved for later business dimensions |
From manufacturing events to the ledger
| Subledger | Event | Ledger impact | Accounting logic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inventory | Raw material receipt | Inventory asset (debit) | Accrual at receipt |
| Manufacturing | Resource charging | WIP labour (debit) | Standard or actual rates |
| Costing | Product completion | Finished goods (debit) | Work order close and variance |
| Order Management | Sales shipment | Cost of goods sold (debit) | Revenue Management sync |
Cost accounting
Oracle Cost Management maps physical inventory events to financial distributions. It supports standard, actual and average costing, calculates variances automatically, and absorbs overhead and landed costs. Automating work order close reveals material usage and labour efficiency variances as soon as production completes, rather than at month end.
Supply chain financial orchestration
- Internal trade – automated internal sales and purchases between business units, with transfer pricing rules for fair margin distribution.
- Drop shipments – financial flows for goods shipped directly from supplier to customer, with correct accounting.
- Global procurement – centralised buying across regions with automated intercompany billing and tax determination.
Capital investment and fixed assets
Capital projects move from construction work in progress to depreciable assets through direct integration with Project Portfolio Management, with capitalisation rules triggered by project completion. The asset lifecycle covers purchase and installation, capitalisation and start of depreciation, revaluation and maintenance cost tracking, and finally sale, scrapping or write-off.
Where it is heading
Embedded machine learning can flag cost anomalies and margin erosion before the period closes, and full drill-down from a ledger balance to the individual work order gives auditors complete transparency.
